Sometimes the best gift is one you give yourself.
Before the holidays I had an idea for a blog post of what to get the artist in your life. I was thinking of luscious paints, beautiful papers, brushes… you get the idea. But soon realized that what I really wanted was a break – from commitments, obligations and all the busyness of everyday.
Gesso, charcoal, graphite aquarelle on paper

And that is just what I did this past Monday. My family was out of town. I cancelled plans. I did not drive anywhere and closed up my laptop. I meditated, journaled, walked, listened to music, worked in my studio and watched a film. The day was spacious. And just what I needed.
Artist Patricia Scarborough did post a lovely list on her blog with other worthwhile gift ideas that don’t come in a box- and are appreciated any time of year!
What gift have you given or plan on giving yourself this year?
oh, that sounds heavenly Nanci. i hope to pick the day next week to do just that, thanks for the reminder! xox Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!!!, kimberlin
The same to you my friend, and I do hope that you do just that for yourself. May the new year bring good healthy, peace, prosperity and divine inspiration!
Space, the perfect gift. Thanks for the mention, I look forward to a growing friendship!
I come by way of Alyson Stanfield’s Blog and am sooo happy that I hopped over to see your wonderful work.
I Love your ‘day of space’ post … your ‘Shadow Drawing’ is scrumptous.
~Happy New Year ~
My gift… given to myself this year… is to paddle about in my kayak more often….as Water Rat says to Mole in ‘Wind in the Willows’…”There’s nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.” …that and being in the studio ‘-)
@Patty… I look forward to having a new friend- in Nebraska (you may be the first person I know from there… maybe Karen Kunc the printmaker- do you know her?) Regardless, I have subscribed to your blog and hope that you will do the same.
@Donna Iona Drozda… Thank you for taking the time to visit and comment on my post. I went to yours as well, subscribed and can’t wait to sit down with a cup of tea and read your fabulous blog.
