Just back from Miami Art Week. I spent 3 days walking, talking, and Ubering to and fro with my friend, artist Shari Epstein who has done this before (multiple times) and knows the ropes of navigating the the city; which venues to catch, roads to avoid (mega traffic) in a very limited time. We walked, we looked, we ubered, we ate and drank. Here is a snippet of what I learned and saw.

Dorchester Hotel in Miami Beach is the setting for INK- prints and works on paper.
First, I learned that Art Basel is just one (ok it is huge and amazing and quite the scene) part of Miami Art Week. Miami and Miami Beach becomes a plethora of venues, galleries, hotels, tents, and parties that take over the city. I always thought the whole thing was called Art Basel. That was Day 2 which I will post soon.

Loved this large Carborundum and Gesso print by Monica Lundy printed at Stoney Road Press in Ireland. Owner/director David O’Donoghue was generous with his time showing us a variety of prints, proofs and plates.
Day 1 was INK; Prints and Works on Paper. Print studios from various places in the US and UK take install their work in ground level guest rooms at the Dorchester Hotel and then, Untitled, in a spacious open tent right on the beach. Studio Directors and Gallery Owners were all very friendly and willing to talk about the work, the artists and processes. I would’ve loved to have been able to whip out my cc card numerous times and join the Collectors VIP lounge. Here are a few shots I managed to take in between looking, conversing with friendly gallery peeps, more looking, and a dying iPhone battery. To see more photos of Day 1 visit my FB Page.
