The early onslaught of Christmas holiday advertisements always felt like a shock to me, an attack of not only my senses but my desire to stay present and not be rushed into the hustle and bustle of the season (and colder weather!)
However, at my fairly recent new part time job at the Winterthur Museum Gift shop in Wilmington, DE, I’ve been decking the halls for well over a month now.
I have been going to work on Mondays when the museum was closed to decorate the trees in the garden and gift shop, the mantels and doorways using all sorts of festive materials. Also, aside from the glitter that is on my face, clothing and hair- I don’t have to take the job home with me. And I’m having fun.
That is a beautiful thing.

Bottle collection in the museum- love the blue gray light providing by Mother Nature and scaffolding on the outside of the building.
I have a scenic back roads short commute to the museum, am surrounded by beautiful gardens and objects, and I learn something new every day about the American fine and decorative arts which I know will find it’s way into my own studio practice one way or another! I also enjoy the people I work with and meeting customers from all over the world with their often fabulous jewelry, clothing and accessories.
So with Thanksgiving a day away and Yuletide in full swing at Winterthur, I am looking forward to seeing family, am grateful for this new opportunity in my life and to share it with you.
Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a joyous beautiful Holiday Season.
